In our last email we announced our MassResistance Banquet taking place on March 22 at a great restaurant in Reading, Mass. Because the room only fits thirty people we didn't advertise it very heavily. Nevertheless, it sold out almost immediately and there are there's a waiting list! People are coming from as far away as Maine and Washington, DC to attend. We've had activists from California ask us to send them a video of it.

As you may have gleaned, our banquets are different than others. Most mainstream profamily groups orchestrate their banquets around big annual fundraising goals. Their strategy is to impress a coterie of wealthy donors so they'll write large checks. As part of that, they work hard to fill the room with people and charge a fairly high ticket price (often over $100). It works quite well.

But for front-line groups around the country like MassResistance, the intense nature of the culture-war battles tcauses a lot of things to be different, including how banquets work. Our banquets are not geared around fundraising goals, but around energizing and educating our supporters and activists on the latest information and techniques.

In this heated political environment, even holding our events in a hotel banquet room is no longer really an option. So we find "friendly" restaurants and churches. And we don't charge a high ticket price. Our focus is to be effective in the battle.

So given the overwhelming response to this event, we're considering holding more of them this year in various places.
