California Bill SB48: Would require public schools & textbooks to portray homosexuality and transgenderism in positive light!

Now moving through CA Legislature. The homosexual movement's next step for schools

Is this the future of American schools? It very well could be. (It's certainly the direction that Obama's "Safe Schools Czar" Kevin Jennings is taking us.)

A bill is moving forward in the California Legislature that would require all public schools - and all textbooks - to actively portray homosexuality and transgenderism / cross-dressing in a positive light. It would also require all of the state's history textbooks to include figures and events in gay history in a positive light.

If passed and signed into law, it would be the most radical law of its kind in the country. Nevertheless, Bill SB48 appears to have widespread support in both houses, being propelled by the powerful homosexual lobby. Last year a similar law was passed but vetoed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The new governor, Jerry Brown, has indicated he would sign it if it passes this year.

Bill SB48 does four main things (see text of bill below):

  • All schools in California must use materials, including textbooks, that include "the role and contributions" of homosexuals and transgenders "to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these groups in contemporary society."
  • No school in California may sponsor any activity that "promotes a discriminatory bias" against homosexuality. (This essentially bans the Boy Scouts, traditional religious clubs, etc.)
  • No textbooks or instructional materials in California schools may "reflect adversely" on homosexuality.
  • All "alternative or charter schools" in California are hereby warned that they'd better adopt similar rules.

Homosexual lobby senses huge victory looming

The homosexual movement sees SB48 not only as a model for legislation across the country, but as a way to force homosexuality and transgenderism past parents into the minds of children.

Gay groups pushing hard: Here's what Carolyn Laub, Executive Director and Founder of Gay Straight Alliance Network (a California group affiliated with Kevin Jennings and GLSEN) said to students at Sonoma State University on 3/1/2011, talking about SB48:

"This law as you can imagine, is going to make a lot of people really unhappy. (Laughs) There's going to be a lot of backlash and pushback against the law, but we are very encouraged that we will have an opportunity to pass this law here in California next year because we passed the same, a very similar law passed before, but it got vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger. And now we have a governor, Governor Brown, in office who has indicated, while he was running for office, that he would sign a similar type of legislation."

Making its way through the Legislature

The bill was introduced on Dec. 10. On March 23 it passed the Senate Education Committee after a public hearing there. It passed the Senate Judiciary Committee after a second public hearing on Tuesday, April 5.

At some time to be determined it will go to the full Senate. If it passes the Senate, it goes to various House committees, a vote by the full House, and then to the Governor. As unbelievable as it sounds, it will be an uphill fight to stop it. But it's not impossible by any means, and the pro-family forces in California are hopefully up to the challenge.

It needs to be stopped in California -- and not be allowed to spread across America.

Here's the text of Bill SB48

CALIFORNIA -- Bill SB48

SECTION 1. Section 51204.5 of the Education Code is amended to read:

51204.5. Instruction in social sciences shall include the early history of California and a study of the role and contributions of both men and women, Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic and cultural groups, to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these groups in contemporary society.

SEC. 2. Section 51500 of the Education Code is amended to read:

51500. A teacher shall not give instruction and a school district shall not sponsor any activity that promotes a discriminatory bias on the basis of race or ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, or because of a characteristic listed in Section 220.

SEC. 3. Section 51501 of the Education Code is amended to read:

51501. The state board and any governing board shall not adopt any textbooks or other instructional materials for use in the public schools that contain any matter reflecting adversely upon persons on the basis of race or ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, or because of a characteristic listed in Section 220.

SEC. 4. Section 60040 of the Education Code is amended to read:

60040. When adopting instructional materials for use in the schools, governing boards shall include only instructional materials which, in their determination, accurately portray the cultural and racial diversity of our society, including:

(a) The contributions of both men and women in all types of roles, including professional, vocational, and executive roles.

(b) The role and contributions of Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic and cultural groups to the total development of California and the United States.

(c) The role and contributions of the entrepreneur and labor in the total development of California and the United States.

SEC. 5. Section 60044 of the Education Code is amended to read:

60044. A governing board shall not adopt any instructional materials for use in the schools that, in its determination, contain :

(a) Any matter reflecting adversely upon persons on the basis of race or ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, occupation, or because of a characteristic listed in Section 220.

(b) Any sectarian or denominational doctrine or propaganda contrary to law.

SEC. 6. It is the intent of the Legislature that alternative and charter schools take notice of the provisions of this act in light of Section 235 of the Education Code, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability, gender, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or other specified characteristics in any aspect of the operation of alternative and charter schools.
